Content is the bread and butter of your blog. Create awesome content and everything else will follow. Awesome content will naturally lead to:
- An audience. Visitors will want to read more and return for more awesome content.
- Back links. Other websites will enjoy your content and link to it.
- User engagement. People will interact with your website more, this boosts metrics that are important to search engines and will also drive conversions.
As you can see, blogging can literally be as simple as it sounds. You blog about the things you care about and everything else sort of takes care of itself.
OK, so it's not always that easy. But content plays a huge role in the success of your blog, so it's important to do it well.
Keep Your Content Organized
Remember that kid in class who always took the best notes? You would have paid him for a copy. Be him.
You should lay out material in a format that is easy for anyone to digest.
- Use bullet points
- Write short sentences that are to the point
- Break content up with spacing
- Use bold and italics to highlight important information
- Use color themes to tie segments of information together
- Employ H1, H2, H3 titles
Stay Focused on the Main Topic of Your Content
Remember all of that keyword research before you started writing content? Odds are someone will search that keyword before pulling up your post. They're only looking for information directly related to that keyword.
You've spent a lot of time using keyword research to brainstorm key points for content. Now is the time to zero in on those key points.
H1, H2, and H3 headers can help with this. Have your keyword present in the title of the post and various subtitles throughout your post. Not only does this help your on page SEO, but it gives your post a firm direction.
You may come up with other awesome ideas while you're generating content for a post. Write them down and come back to them later. If they're related to the current post you can come back and link to them later.
Be an Authority
You chose a niche that you're passionate about. So it shouldn't be painful to study up on that niche and keep up to date on the latest information.
Are you new to the niche? Link out to other authoritative sources. This can quickly establish some authority by association.
Take a look at the content that's ranking first. Is it a list? Create a longer list. Is it a guide? Create a more comprehensive guide. Your goal is to have the best content in your niche.
Mix in Images with Your Content
In the last few years, infographics have become a major trend in content marketing. That's because people find information easier to digest when related images are present.
Images keep people engaged and they help people digest information.
I use Canva for all of my graphics.
You can create an account for free. A solid portion of their graphics/images are also free, paid images cost $1. I do almost all of my graphics using their selection of free images.
